Bespoke Caravan Chassis, Engineered in Melbourne to Your Exact Spec

Mountain Chassis designs and fabricates on-road, semi off-road, off-road and specialty caravan chassis from our Campbellfield workshop. Every design is engineered from scratch around your build, not picked from a standard list of offerings.

Backed by Australian steel, AS/NZS-standard welding and a 3-year warranty, we service caravan manufacturers, custom builders and private buyers across Melbourne and Victoria.

Caravan Chassis Configurations, Built for How You Actually Travel

Mountain Chassis designs and fabricates bespoke caravan chassis in Campbellfield, for caravan manufacturers, custom builders and private buyers across Melbourne and Victoria. Every chassis is engineered from scratch for on-road, semi off-road, off-road or specialty use, built from Australian steel, welded to AS/NZS standards and ADR 62 compliant.

Every job starts with a conversation about your vehicle, your load, and where you’re actually going to tow it — then we build the chassis for that application.

Who We Build For

Caravan Chassis We Specialise In

On-Road Caravan Chassis

For standard touring caravans that mostly stick to sealed roads and caravan parks. A lighter-construction chassis, fully compliant, engineered for reliable everyday towing without unnecessary bulk or weight. Ideal for production caravans, family vans, and weekenders that stay on the bitumen.

Semi Off-Road Caravan Chassis

For travellers who mix sealed roads with formed gravel tracks and light corrugations. A step up in reinforcement and ground clearance over an on-road chassis, without the extra weight and cost of a full off-road build.

Off-Road Caravan Chassis

For serious remote and unsealed-road travel. Heavier-duty construction, engineered to handle sustained corrugations and rough terrain — built to your actual application and load, not a generic “off-road” label.

Specialty Caravan Chassis

For non-standard applications including tiny homes, food vans, fifth wheelers, fold-up A-frame builds and other purpose-built projects. We work closely with you to engineer the best configuration around the application, from the ground up.

Finish Options

How a chassis is finished affects how long it lasts in the conditions it’s actually used in. We offer a full range of finishes, matched to your application:

Precision and Compliance You Can Verify

Every caravan chassis we build is fabricated with the relevant Australian Design Rules in mind, most importantly ADR 62, which governs the strength and design of the mechanical connection between a tow vehicle and a trailer, including drawbars, couplings and safety chains. Where a build needs its own engineering certification — custom configurations, oversized loads, or modified components — we work with qualified engineers to get that documentation sorted for compliance and registration before your chassis leaves the workshop.

How a Bespoke Caravan Chassis Comes Together

Enquire

Call, email, send us a WhatsApp message or complete our online form. Tell us the build type, intended use and rough timeline.

01

02

Consultation & Quote

We’ll review your brief, then we can talk through your build and provide a clear, itemised quote before any work begins. For complex builds, a site visit or workshop meeting may be arranged.

Design Review

Dimensions, configuration, suspension, coupling and finish is confirmed and approved before fabrication starts.

03

04

Fabrication

Your build will commence in our Campbellfield workshop, using Australian-sourced steel. Flatness, squareness, and straightness are verified throughout.

Finishing & Compliance

Next, your chosen finish will be applied - galvanised, powder coat, painted, or Raptor. The engineering certification will then be arranged where required for ADR compliance.

05

06

Delivery or Collection

Your chassis is then available for collection from our Campbellfield workshop, or delivery arranged, with realistic timelines communicated at quoting stage.

New to this? We’ll guide you through it — no jargon, no pressure, just a straight conversation about what you actually need, wherever you’re at in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

How important is a caravan's chassis, and why does it matter?
A caravan chassis is the structural frame the whole caravan is built onto — it carries the load, absorbs the road, and determines how the van tows and how long it lasts. If the chassis isn’t built right, nothing else about the caravan matters.
We build on-road, semi off-road, off-road and specialty caravan chassis, all engineered from scratch to your vehicle, load and intended use rather than selected from a standard range. This ensures you’re not paying for capability you’ll never use, or stuck with a chassis that can’t handle the roads you actually tow on.
A semi off-road chassis is reinforced for a mix of sealed roads and formed gravel tracks with light corrugations, while a full off-road chassis is built with heavier-duty construction for sustained rough terrain and remote, unsealed travel. We’ll confirm the right configuration for your actual application during your quote.
Tell us your vehicle, your load, and how you’re actually planning to use it — mostly sealed roads, a mix of sealed and gravel, or serious remote travel — and we’ll recommend the right configuration as part of your quote. You don’t need to know the technical specifics before you call.
Hot-dip galvanised, powder coat, or painted. Each suits different conditions — hot-dip galvanised for maximum corrosion resistance in off-road or coastal use, powder coat and paint for on-road and semi off-road builds.
Yes. We provide a traceable ADR 62 compliance certificate with every relevant build, so it can be incorporated into a caravan manufacturer’s overall compliance sign-off without extra back-and-forth.
We don’t publish prices, because every chassis for caravan and trailer applications is genuinely bespoke and the cost depends on configuration, size and finish. Get in touch and we’ll talk you through an honest, itemised quote.
Lead times vary with how busy the workshop is — typically around 2 weeks in quieter periods, extending to 8–10 weeks when busy. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe as part of your quote.
Yes. Specialty configurations — tiny homes, food vans, fifth wheelers, fold-up A-frame builds and other purpose-built projects — are engineered around the specific application from the ground up, the same as our on-road and off-road caravan chassis work.
